Noah Gambill Next student >>

Hometown: Terre Haute, Indiana
Major: Classical Civilization (prelaw)

Noah spent two summers at IU serving as an orientation leader during New Student Orientation. He talked with incoming students and their families, taking them from place to place on campus, and offering a lot advice. Noah loved it all, but he was particularly good at the advice part, especially when he was talking with other transfer students.

"Sometimes I might get on a soapbox, but I have a lot to share," he says. Noah's mantra is tried and true: "Be ready to be surprised by IU. Get involved. Live on campus. Take advantage of all that is here and the diversity. Talk to your professors. Listen to some jazz at the MAC. Buy into this place because it's worth it."

Noah transferred to IU at the start of his sophomore year from Wabash College (860 students, all male) where he ran track and cross country. He decided the small liberal arts college wasn't his style, and since he had “grown up with IU” (his parents came and met here), Noah made the decision to transfer.

"I didn't want to get here and be an island or set apart because I was a transfer student. That's why I lived on campus and tried to get connected right away. I wanted to experience the things that make IU so amazing."

"Maybe I have to get back on my soapbox to say this, but I tell everyone, whether they're a transfer or not, to take the initiative to become an IU student. That's more than going to class. It's eating downtown, it's going to a tailgate party, it’s riding in the Little 500, it's singing the fight song even when the football team loses. Get involved and experience this. That's what I harp on, but that's enough advice from me."
