  I use compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL) or light emitting diode (LED) bulbs in auxiliary lighting
  I use a power strip (or smart strip) to control phantom load from electronics not in use by unplugging the entire power strip
  I unplug electronic items not in use (cell phone and computer chargers, lamps, etc.)
  I use Energy Star appliances , especially mini-fridge and television
 
I open shades or curtains to utilize natural light when indoors, instead of using more lighting
  I only use the amount of light necessary for the task at hand, i.e. avoids decorative lighting (stringed lights or decorative lamps)
  I turn off water while brushing teeth
  I turn off water while applying soap or shampoo in the shower
  I do not use toilet as a trash can. If I need to disposes of tissues and other bathroom trash in the recycling or the waste can, and do not waste water by flushing it down the toilet.
  I utilize no-carbon transportation methods on campus
 
I walk to and from my destination on campus
  I use a  bicycle or skateboard on campus
  I've opened a Zipcar account for off campus travel
  I've created a Zimride profile to facilitate carpooling
  I did not bring my automobile to school
  I use scrap paper
  I use reusable shopping bags
  I have at least one recycling bin in room
  I use school supplies made with recycled materials, i.e. paper, pens, folders, etc.
  I have “second-hand” or thrifted room decorations
  I use ink-jet printers instead of laser printers when possible
  I have activated sleep setting on computers to put the computer to sleep after five minutes of inactivity
  I purchase recycled content paper
  I utilize duplex (http://uits.iu.edu/page/akez) , or double-sided, printing
  I save reading material to computer desktop instead of printing
  I use cold water wash settings
  I use drying rack or line instead of dryer
  I only wash full loads of laundry
  I use green laundry products free of synthetic fragrances and dyes, phosphates, bleach, and surfactant nonylphenol ethoxylate (or NPEs)
  I do not use fabric softener

  I am a member of a sustainability-related extracurricular group (http://www.indiana.edu/~sustain/SSC/index.html#gpso_iu)
  I volunteer for a sustainability-related organization
  I have recruited at least one person to pursue Green Dorm Room Certification
  I purchase used bedding and towels or those made from organic cotton
  I use house plants to improve air quality in place of plug-in air fresheners
  I use green cleaning supplies: i.e.  are non-toxic, bleach-free, free of phosphates, free of synthetic dyes or fragrances, free of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), or are homemade (baking soda and vinegar, lemon juice)
