FASFA Updates/Corrections due on May 15

Once you submit your FASFA, both you and your parent will receive an email with a link that allows you to view your SAR (Student Aid Report) online. This link is sent to the email addresses that both you and your parent listed on the FASFA. The SAR lists all your responses to the FASFA. It is important that you review the SAR very carefully. If you have any corrections/updates to make to your FASFA, you must do so before May 15. If the FASFA processor detects errors on your FASFA, they will also send a paper copy of the SAR to your home address. This indicates that there are errors on your FASFA that must be corrected. In addition, the FASFA processor may send you an email indicating that there are errors on your FASFA that must be corrected.

To make updates or corrections to your FASFA, log back on to the FASFA website (http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/) and click on “Make FASFA Corrections.” You must enter your PIN to correct your FASFA. If you are a dependent student and you do not correct any of your parents’ information, then a parent is not required to sign your corrected FAFSA. But if you are a dependent student and you do correct your parents’ information, then a parent is required to sign your corrected FAFSA using his or her PIN.

If your parent’s signature is required and he or she did not already sign your corrected FAFSA, you can do the following:
  • Click “Start Here” on the home page to log in to FAFSA on the Web.
  • Click Provide Signatures.
Your parent should follow the instructions provided on the page to either sign your corrected FAFSA with a PIN, or print a signature page. If your parent chooses to print a signature page, he or she should print it, sign it, and mail it to the address provided.

The May 15 correction deadline is as critical as the March 10 filing deadline. Missing either of them will result in the loss of state financial aid.
