Overview:

What makes a city a city? What distinguishes cities from each other? Why do people in cities do the things they do? How can we change cities for the better? For the first time in all of human history more people live in cities than in rural settings and more are moving to cities every day. Cities have driven some of the world's greatest advances, but they also face some of the world's biggest challenges. This course offers your first step toward solving the problems of the world's cities. Using hands-on activities, classic readings, active discussions, and professional tools, this course will give you the knowledge, skills, and perspectives you need to see cities in a new and different way and to start thinking about how to address the challenges they face.
