Professor Richard N. Zare is the Marguerite Blake Wilbur Professor of
Natural Science at Stanford University. He is an internationally renowned
researcher in seminal studies in physical and analytical chemistry, as
well as a pioneer in the field of laser chemistry. He has also made major
contributions to science pedagogy and education policy, and has taught an
introductory chemistry class every year since arriving at Stanford in
1977. Aside from being a member of the National Academy of Sciences and a
foreign member of the Royal Society, he has been actively involved in
national science policy by serving for six years on the policy-setting
board of the National Science Foundation. One of the highest recognitions
Professor Zare has received is the National Medal of Science, awarded in
1983 for his contributions in molecular spectroscopy, photochemistry, and
chemical reaction dynamics. He is the author or co-author of more than
700 publications, has written four books, and holds more than 50 patents.
Join us for an informal discussion with this exciting scientist about his
work and your interests, whether in public policy, science education, or

On campus as a
Patten Lecturer, Professor Zare will deliver the following public
lectures:
-
Chemical Fizzics: All About Bubbles
on Tuesday, Sept. 4, in Chemistry 122 at 7:30 p.m.
- Adventures in Liquid Steam Chemical Analysis and
Nanoparticle Chemical Synthesis
on Wednesday, Sept. 5, Chemistry 122 at 4 p.m.
- Sex, Lies, and Title IX (Public Lecture on Title IX in
the
Academy, and Not Just Sports)
on Thursday, Sept. 6, Whittenberger Auditorium at 2
