Making Change Happen: "Strategy" Lunch with Community Activist Ava Hernandez

Ava Hernandez was on campus as the guest of La Casa in recognition of National Hispanic Heritage Month. In light of her own success facilitating change, her visit seemed an ideal opportunity to foster discussion about the ways to create the change you want to see in the world. The HHC invited students from STAND (Students Taking Action Now: Darfur), Y'ALL (Youth Advocating Leadership and Learning), the Kelley Microfinance Initiative, and Latinos Unidos to talk about the goals and successes of their organizations.

Billy Bennett of the Kelley Microfinance Initiative tells the lunch's attendees what his student group does and how it benefits loan recipients and the IU students who work on the initiative.

Drawing on her own experiences and the examples offered by the student groups, Ava Hernandez talks about ways to set and achieve goals.
