Lunch with Lotus Band Canzoniere Grecanico
Salentino the 2010
September 23, 2011
Mauro Durante and members of Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino came to Bloomington for the annual Lotus World Music Festival and stopped by Harlos House for some lunch and conversation. Students learned about the band's 21st-century take on southern Italy's traditional music - from pizzica dance music to heartfelt love songs. Founded more than 30 years ago, the group has been passed from father to son; Durante, still in his mid-twenties, and the band have toured the world, giving live concerts-"a life explosion full of energy, passion, rhythem and mystery"-to audiences as large as 100,000. The lunch was co-sponsored by the Wells Scholars Program and the Hutton Honors College.
