In Their Own Words: The Tuskegee Airmen

February 22, 2013

Students came to the Hutton Honors College Great Room to hear the Tuskegee Airmen in their own words, both in film and in person. During World War II, when the U.S. armed forces were still segregated, the Tuskegee Airmen were the first African American military pilots. They served with distinction in difficult times and their stories of the war and their experiences before and after are compelling. The program included excerpts from the 2011 documentary, In Their Own Words: The Tuskegee Airmen, and a conversation with Tuskegee Airmen Lawton Wilkerson and Julian Johnson.

Photographs were taken by David Snodgress from the Bloomington Herald-Times.
