  • Mon., Mar. 28, 2005
  • 5-6:30 p.m.

This is a small-group program and requires participants to sign up in advance. Participants must be IU undergraduates.

Coleen Rowley, a 20+-year veteran FBI agent, was one of three whistleblowers named by Time Magazine as People of the Year in 2002 for "speaking truth to power." In May of that year she had written a memo to the FBI director, criticizing the agency for failing to act on pre-9/11 warnings of terrorist activities and for not acknowledging, after 9/11, its mistakes. Her efforts contributed to the formation of the 9/11 commission.

While on campus, Colleen Rowley will also give two public talks. The first, entitled "Speaking Truth to Power: Ethical Decision-Making in Today's Workplace," will take place on Monday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m. in Woodburn 100. The second lecture, "Balancing Civil Liberties and National Security," will be held on Tuesday, March 29, at 10:00 a.m. in Woodburn 218.
