One Swingin' Night: The Big Band Extravaganza at the
MAC
An Evening with Living Jazz Legend David Baker
It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing!--join fellow
students on Saturday, April 19, 2008, to celebrate the sounds of swing's
most
legendary players and composers at the annual Big Band
Extravaganza.
Saturday's show will be conducted by Indiana University School of Music
Professors David Baker and Pat Harbison. Dr. Baker chairs the Department
of Jazz Studies at IU and serves as the conductor and artistic director of
the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra. He has received nominations
for the Pulitzer Prize and Grammy award, was named an Indiana Living
Legend in 2001, and in 2007 was honored with the Living Jazz Legend Award.
Selmer/Bach artist Pat Harbison is an active jazz clinician and has
recorded for a variety of jazz albums including the Blue Wisp Big Band and
David Baker's 21st century Bebop Band.
Special guests include the Billie Holiday Vocal Competition award-winner
Delores King Williams, as well as Emmy Award winning vocalist Everett
Greene. Get ready to swing!

REFRESHMENTS and a PRE-PERFORMANCE PROGRAM WITH DR. BAKER.

THURSDAY, APRIL 17. Please go to Honors House, 324 N. Jordan
Avenue,
and ask for Eriko Atagi. The office is open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and will be
closed for lunch between noon and 1 p.m. This program is open to any
IU undergraduate. You may sign up friends as well, but payment
