HHC Spring Hike at IU's Griffy Woods: Ecology, Conservation, Environment...

* Saturday, April 5, 2008 * 9-11 a.m. *
Sign-up required to participate; see RSVP details below.

The HHC's Griffy Woods Spring Hike, led by staff of the IU Research and Teaching Preserve, will explore one or several of the many trails at Griffy Woods and include a discussion about the ecology and conservation of the woods, the protection of the Griffy Lake Watershed, and other environmental issues. Sturdy shoes are a must for this hike!

Less than a mile north of Assembly Hall, the Griffy Woods site encompasses a great deal of landscape and biological diversity. The 185-acre site is adjacent to the City of Bloomington's Griffy Nature Preserve and the Indiana University Championship Golf Course. Much of the area consists of heavily forested ridges and ravines flowing into Lake Griffy but there are also flatter upland and bottomland areas. A diversity of successional stages, ranging from old fields to mature forest, are represented. Parts of the preserve exhibit substantial invasion by exotic plant species but most consists of undisturbed native communities. (Description taken from their website.)

* RSVP and transportation: To sign up for this program, send an e-mail to eatagi at indiana.edu with your name, e-mail address, phone number, major(s), and year in school. Space is limited, so we will let you know if space was available when you replied.
* Please also indicate in your e-mail message whether you are
