Designing a Green Campus: Discussion Supper with
IUB's New Director of
Sustainability Bill Brown
Tuesday, April 14, 2009 *
5-6:30 p.m. * New HHC Building (811 E. Seventh St.) * SIGN-UP
REQUIRED
Considered "a leading Indiana figure in the design and construction of
environmentally sustainable buildings," Bill Brown has been
aiming to
design futureproof buildings, net zero energy buildings, buildings that
are disaster-resistant, buildings with vegetative roofs, buildings
sheltered by the earth. As the new director of sustainability for the
IU Bloomington campus, he has been challenged to make IU "a national
leader in campus sustainability" and to integrate "principles of
environmental sustainability into all aspects of campus operations and
academic life." Are those goals possible on a campus this old and this
big? He has said he needs everyone's help, from freshmen to alums, to
get the job done.
How will the new Master Plan affect campus sustainability? Will IU
expand transportation options? What role can students play? Bill Brown
will open with brief comments, but will leave plenty of time for your
questions and suggestions!
Whether or not you are able to attend the supper, you are invited to
attend a panel discussion that same evening on "Global Perspectives on
Sustainability" at 7 p.m. in State Room East of the IMU. The panel
discussion is
free and open to the public.
These events are part of SustainIU, 10
days of events focusing
attention
on issues of social, economic, and environmental sustainability.
