Where will the next major terrorist attack occur? Why might it
happen
in Europe? How might the circumstances of immigrants contribute to
concerns? Join British international security expert John
Gearson
for a
discussion of terrorism in Europe. As a defense policy advisor to the
British government and to the City of London, Gearson has had major
responsibility in the development of Britain's and the city's
counterterrorism strategies. While at Parliament, he was also
responsible for inquiries into the Iraq War, the Freedom of Information
Act, and other defense matters. Reader in terrorism studies and
director of the Center for Defense Studies in the Department of War
Studies at King's College in London, he is also a member of the
editorial board of Studies in Conflict and Terrorism. Gearson
regularly
contributes to major media outlets such as BBC and Reuters. The supper
is co-sponsored by the Wells Scholars Program.
On
campus as a guest of the Center for the Study of Global Change and
the Institute for Advanced Study, Gearson will speak on "Terrorism
in
Europe" on Wednesday, February 25, at 3:30 p.m. in the Distinguished
Alumni
