1. How is your honors degree program administered? Is there a specific person who acts as coordinator? Is there a faculty committee?

The program is coordinated by the Undergrduate Advisor and administered by the Student Affairs and Admissions Committee. Students should discuss their plans with a Near Eastern Languages and Cultures faculty sponsor of their choice before meeting with the Advisor.

2. What are the requirements for admission into your honors program? How are students recruited for your program? May students recommend themselves?

Students with a GPA of 3.5 or better are encouraged to enroll during their junior and senior years.

3. How does a student graduate with honors from your department?

Honors students must complete a minimum of two courses: N399 (readings for honors) and N499 (honors thesis) in consultation with the departmental honors advisor.

4. What are the advantages for students who pursue the honors degree compared to a regular degree in your area?

The program provides a thorough foundation for career opportunities in many fields including business, law, foreign and government service, and journalism, as well as preparation for graduate work in anthropology, comparative literature, linguistics, Near Eastern studies, history, political science, and history of religions.
