1. How is your honors degree program administered? Is there a specific
person who acts as coordinator? Is there a faculty committee?
The program is coordinated by the Undergrduate Advisor and administered
by the Student Affairs and Admissions Committee.
Students should discuss their plans with a Near Eastern Languages and
Cultures faculty sponsor of their choice before meeting with the
Advisor.
2. What are the requirements for admission into your honors program?
How are students recruited for your program? May students recommend
themselves?
Students with a GPA of 3.5 or better are encouraged to enroll during
their junior and senior years.
3. How does a student graduate with honors from your department?
Honors students must complete a minimum of two courses: N399 (readings
for honors) and N499 (honors thesis) in consultation with the
departmental honors advisor.
4. What are the advantages for students who pursue the honors degree
compared to a regular degree in your area?
The program provides a thorough foundation for career opportunities in
many fields including business, law, foreign and government service,
and journalism, as well as
preparation for graduate work in anthropology, comparative literature,
linguistics, Near Eastern studies, history, political science, and history
of religions.
