ADMISSIONS

Incoming Freshman:

Admission to the Hutton Honors College is by Invitation or by Petition.

By Invitation: For Fall 2017, students admitted to IU-Bloomington will be automatically invited if they meet one of the following sets of criteria:

GPA ACT OLD SAT NEW SAT
3.95 (or top 5% class rank) ... and a ≥ 31 ... or ≥ 1380 ... or ≥ 1430
3.90 (or top 7.5% class rank) ... and a ≥ 32 ... or ≥ 1390 ... or ≥ 1440
3.85 (or top 10% class rank) ... and a ≥ 34 ... or ≥ 1470 ... or ≥ 1510

We superscore the SAT and the ACT. We will superscore within the old SAT and the new SAT, but not between the two sets.

We consider only the Cumulative GPA on the official transcript (weighted or unweighted).

Hutton Honors College Scholarship:

All application materials for admission to IUB must be submitted online or postmarked by November 1.

If invited to apply for an HHC scholarship through the Selective Scholarship Application (SSA), students should submit their complete SSA (including letters of recommendation) as early as possible. Early submission of the SSA (including letters of recommendation) will result in priority scholarship consideration from the Hutton Honors College.

If your IUB application is not complete by November 1, but you meet our automatic invitation requirements, we will continue to extend invitations on a space-available basis, but you will not be allowed to apply for an HHC Scholarship.

By Petition: If you are not invited to be a member of the Hutton Honors College and you have been admitted to IUB, you may petition for admission to our program. If your petition is approved, you will not be eligible to apply for the Hutton Honors College Scholarship, but you will be able to take advantage of all the other HHC opportunities.

Please mail (email petitions will not be accepted) petitions to:

Laura Felicetti, Director of Admissions and Recruitment
Hutton Honors College
811 E. Seventh Street
Bloomington, IN 47405-3927

Petitions must include:

  • A brief letter explaining why you would like to enter our program. Be sure to include your full name, address and IU student I.D. number in this letter!
  • A letter of recommendation from a high school faculty member who has taught you in an academic course.
  • A copy of your high school transcript.
Please mail ALL ITEMS TOGETHER. Letters of recommendation and transcripts should be in sealed envelopes.

Please note, we do not send automatic confirmations of receipt of your petition. If you would like confirmation, please email Laura Felicetti at lfelicet@indiana.edu.

Petitions must be postmarked no later than February 15. Petitions will not be reviewed until after February 15. All decisions will be finalized no later than March 1.

Transfer Students:

Transfer students must complete one semester on the IUB campus and earn a minimum 3.7 GPA while enrolled in at least 14 solid academic credit hours. Once you have fulfilled these two requirements, please call our receptionist at 812-855-3555 to request an appointment with one of our academic advisors.

Current Students:

Students who do not enter the Hutton Honors College as incoming freshmen may still be eligible for admission if their academic work during their first semester at IU is outstanding. To be considered for admission at that time, you must have completed, during your first full semester at IU, a minimum of 14 graded academic credits (grades of S for Satisfactory will not be counted), and you must have maintained a 3.7 GPA. If you meet these requirements, WE WILL CONTACT YOU in January via email.

If you are currently enrolled at IUB and have questions about admission to the HHC not answered on this page, please e-mail hhcadvng@indiana.edu or call 812-855-3555 to set an appointment. .
