Who is not eligible?
-
Students who have major IU scholarships that specifically include funding for an overseas study experience are not eligible for HIEP funding. Those include students in the following:
1) Wells Scholars Program
2) Kelley Scholars Program
3) Herbert/Hoosier Presidential Scholars Program
4) Robbins/Hutton Scholarship Fund recipients through LAMP
EXCEPTION: Funding currently allows you to apply for HIEP funding if your planned trip will be with BUS G-256 or BUS P-256.
- Students who have previously received HIEP funding are not eligible. All HIEP awards are one-time-only.
EXCEPTIONS: Funding currently allows you to apply if:
1) if your prior award was for the Kelley BUS G-256 Emerging Economies class.
2) if your prior award was for the Kelley BUS P-256 Business in a Flat World class.
3) if your planned trip will be with BUS G-256 or BUS P-256.
4) if your prior award was the HIEP Goldman Sachs Scholarship.
- Students receiving funding from the Robbins/Hutton Scholarship Fund through LAMP (Liberal Arts and Management Program) cannot receive HIEP funding during the same semester.
- Students in the Cox Research Scholarship Program (CRSP) are not eligible to receive HIEP funding during the academic year. CRSP's may apply for HIEP funding during summer term only.
- Students traveling after their undergraduate graduation date are not eligible. In this case, you may wish to talk to the Registrar's office to discuss pushing back your graduation date.
-
Applicants must have completed at least one semester (12 credits) of graded coursework at IU Bloomington. HIEP funding is open only to full-time undergraduate students at IU Bloomington.
- HIEP funding is made to individual students on a merit basis. It may not be used to provide blanket support for multiple students for any particular overseas experience or program.
- Important!
We will not award scholarships for travel to dangerous locations. The only exceptions are for these programs vetted and approved by OSAC (IU's Overseas Study Advisory Council). Dangerous locations include any country or area about which the U.S. Department of State has issued a travel warning.
The suitability of scholarship and grant support for travel to other destinations will be subject to the discretion of the Hutton Honors College Undergraduate Grant Program awards committee.

Important notice regarding financial aid
Please note: If you are packaged with need-based federal financial aid (for example, Stafford loans, Pell Promise grants), and you receive one of the Hutton Honors College's grants, awards, scholarships, or prizes, your award from the Hutton Honors College may not be paid-out in the form of cash funds (i.e., as money paid into your Bursar account), but instead, may be used by IU's Office of Student Financial Assistance (OSFA) to reduce your student loan burden. If your federal financial aid is sufficiently large, i.e., is close to or already meets your cost of attendance at Indiana University, you must contact OSFA (e-mail: blfinaid@indiana.edu) to learn how your HIEP funding may impact your aid and to determine whether your cost of attendance budget can be adjusted accordingly. Also, please refer to OSFA for information regarding study abroad and financial aid.
