Jacob Javits Fellowship

The Jacob Javits Fellowship was established under legislation of the Higher Education Act of 1965. The program provides assistance to students pursuing a masters or doctoral degree in the social sciences, arts or humanities. The award covers institution tuition and fees. In addition, the award offers a stipend. The amount of the award is subject to change upon availability of funds. In 2009 the institutional payment was $13,552 and the maximum stipend was $30,000. For the fiscal year 2010, the maximum stipend will be $30,000, and the institutional payment is estimated to be $13,755.   • Candidate entering a masters (terminal degree for field of study) or doctoral program OR has not completed the first year of graduate studies
  • Be a U.S. Citizen or National, permanent resident of the U.S, or Citizens of the Freely Associated States
  • Eligible to attend an accredited university in the United States (foreign institutions are ineligible)
  • Show documented need for financial assistance
  • Show superior academic ability and exceptional promise
