Jacob Javits Fellowship

The Jacob Javits Fellowship was established under legislation of the
Higher Education Act of 1965. The program provides assistance to students
pursuing a masters or doctoral degree in the social sciences, arts or
humanities. The award covers institution tuition and fees. In
addition, the award offers a stipend. The amount of the award is subject
to change upon availability of funds. In 2005 the institutional payment
was $11,822 and the maximum stipend was $30,000. For further information,

- Candidate entering a masters (terminal degree for field of study) or doctoral program OR has not completed the first year of graduate studies
- Be a U.S. Citizen or National, permanent resident of the U.S, or Citizens of the Freely Associated States
- Eligible to attend an accredited university in the United States
(foreign institutions are ineligible)
- Show documented need for financial assistance
- Show superior academic ability and exceptional promise
