Transition to Teaching

The Indiana University Transition to Teaching program (T-to-T) is an alternative route to teacher certification. Created in response to Indiana state legislation, the T-to-T program enables individuals who have previously earned a college degree in a content discipline to prepare for the profession of teaching at the K-12 levels.

Both the Elementary program (ET-to-T) and the Secondary program (ST-to-T) are heavily field-based experiences linked to a rigorous course of study as well as performance standards that are focused on learning and teaching in K-12 classrooms. Trained, classroom mentor teachers play an instrumental role in the apprenticeship and preparation of the new generation of T-to-T teacher candidates. Mentors will work closely with T-to-T students to share their expertise and provide guidance, support and encouragement throughout the experience.

Indiana University will offer both an elementary and a secondary T-to-T program beginning in 2003.
