The
Indiana University
School of Nursing Corridor Baccalaureate program has a
primary responsibility to the education of future professional nurses a
responsibility seriously recognized by the Admissions Committee, charged
with the selection of those candidates who best demonstrate the academic
achievement, emotional maturity, integrity, and motivation necessary for the
successful study and practice of nursing. The requirements listed above are
necessary for consideration for admission.
Meeting the minimum
requirements does not guarantee admission to the program.
More
detailed information is available in the
2009-2010 Pre Nursing Handbook on the Indiana University School of Nursing website
www.indiana.edu/~iubnurse. The Indiana University School of Nursing
reserves the right to make changes in these admission criteria.
If
students have questions about the Admission Criteria, they should see their
assigned advisor or the School of Nursing Advisor.
IMPORTANT
NOTE Mandatory Information Session
Current IU
Bloomington students who plan to apply for Fall 2010 must attend a mandatory
Application Information Session. Due to the large number of
pre-nursing students and the change in admission requirements, it is essential
that all students planning to apply understand the application process. If
you do not attend a session, your application will not be accepted. Sessions
will be scheduled in October & November, 2009.
All
students who currently have listed Pre-Nursing as their major will receive
notification about the meetings via email from our list serv.
Students may apply once a year for admission to the BSN major on
the Bloomington campus. The Bloomington program admits approximately 60 students to the BSN major each fall.
Bloomington students may also apply for admission to the BSN major at Indianapolis (IUPUI) and regional campuses
around the state. IUPUI admits up to 100 students each fall and spring.
(Typically 450-500 applications are received between IUB & IUPUI
campuses.) Students need to submit only one application to apply to both the Bloomington and IUPUI campuses. Students from Bloomington
who wish to apply at campuses other than Bloomington and Indianapolis must contact the advisor
at these other campuses to ensure they are meeting campus-specific admission policies. It is not necessary for
Bloomington students to contact IUPUI advisors since students who meet admission requirements at IUB also meet
admission requirements at IUPUI (and vice versa).
Important Note:
Please note that students applying to a campus other than the one
they are currently attending must contact their Student Office of
Financial Assistance as soon as possible to determine if
scholarships or financial aid will transfer.
Currently only the IUPUI and South Bend campuses regularly admit students to the BSN major twice per year
(spring and fall).
Application Availability and Deadlines
- Fall Application for BSN degree at IUB/IUPUI: Applications Available On-Line (see this web site)
January 15. Applications Due March 15.
- Spring Application for BSN degree at IUPUI: Applications Available On-Line
July 15 and due September 15. All course work listed on
application must be completed by the end of summer school.
Students interested in admission to the accelerated BSN program at IUPUI should contact the Center for Academic Affairs at IUPUI (317) 274-2806 for additional information
or make an appointment with the Nursing Advisor in Bloomington. Students interested in the traditional BSN degree at
campuses other than IU Bloomington or IUPUI
must contact their regional campus of choice for information and application deadlines. [Again, it is not necessary to contact IUPUI advisors if you are a Bloomington
student applying for admission on that campus because we share common requirements and deadlines. If you meet the requirements
and deadlines for IUB, you also meet them for IUPUI.]
Applicants for admission at IUB/IUPUI are placed into one of three
categories listed below.
- Category A: Indiana University students who have taken
at least 51% of their pre-nursing course hours listed on their application at the Indiana University
campus to which they are applying. Students are considered to be in category A for the
Bloomington and Indianapolis, if they have earned over half of their pre- nursing course credits at IU Bloomington, or IU Columbus, or IUPUI.
Category B: Students who have taken at least 51% of their
pre-nursing course work on an Indiana University campus other than that
to which they are applying, but now wish to change campus sites for the
completion of the nursing major.
Category C: Students who have taken more than 50% of their
pre-nursing course work outside the Indiana University educational system
who now wish to complete their nursing major on a specific Indiana
University campus.
Students who meet the published eligibility criteria will be admitted on
the basis of their:
- Admission category
In recent years the available spots in the nursing program on the
Bloomington and IUPUI campuses have been filled by Category A applicants.
Please see the
Frequently Asked Questions page and the Pre-Nursing Handbook for additional School of Nursing admission information.
Students having additional questions concerning admission are encouraged to contact the nursing advisor early in the process.
