Our Summer 2013 Newsletter

by Dr. Joyce Krothe PhD RN, Assistant Dean

Greetings!  Another academic year has come to a close and with it the graduation of our ninth class.
Welcome new alumni!

This newsletter will provide you with a quick glimpse of just a few of the activities this past year.  The opening of our state-of-the-art simulation center in January of this year is one of the highlights.  In collaboration with the School of Medicine, this facility better prepares our students by offering them real-life experiences in a safe setting.  We invite you to see first-hand this interactive learning environment by joining us on Thursday, June 25 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. for an alumni reception in this facility.

Classroom-Office Building #103
800 E. 3rd Street
Bloomington, Indiana 47405

You should have received a save-the-date email as well as a postcard invitation.  If you did not, please contact us so we can update your information.  See below for more details about the reception.

Be sure to mark your calendars for November 1 for the annual alumni reunion.  We will meet in the Hump Room upstairs at Nick’s English Hut from 7 to 9 p.m.  We hope to see you there!

National Student Nurses' Association Offers Students Opportunities to Grow

by Sarah Hamilton

The National Student Nurses’ Association (NSNA) is a nationwide non-profit organization focused on the professional development of nursing students.  NSNA has chapters in each state and, within each state chapter, there are also campus chapters.  Three years ago, IU Bloomington established their chapter, the Indiana University Student Nurses’ Association (IUSNA).  The current IUSNA Bloomington chapter president is Hanna Moore, who graduated with her BSN in May 2013.  She estimated that IUSNA currently has about 80-90 members, of which about 30 are active.  More »

IUB Nursing Students Connect With Community, Each Other

by Sarah Hamilton

Senior BSN student Hannah Merriman has much more than graduation on her mind.  Along with a full class schedule and NCLEX preparation, she is active in the IU Student Nurses Association (IUSNA).  She and her fellow IUSNA members have been working with Jill’s House as the student organization’s philanthropic effort of choice.  Jill’s House is a facility created in memory of two individuals who lost their lives at an early age.  One is Jill Behrman, an IU Bloomington student who was abducted in May of 2000.  The other is Steven Howard who passed away at the age of 19 from cancer.  Jill’s House honors the memory of these young people through its service to the community at large, and the IUSNA honors them through its service to Jill’s House.  More »
