The IUB Student Sustainability Council has several standing committees to carry out its logistical work in advancing sustainability on the Bloomington campus. A list of committees is below, followed by descriptions of their activities and contact information. Any IUB student is welcome to participate on any committee.
- Logistics Committee
- Publicity Committee
- Committee for Resolutions
- Events Committee
- SustainIU Committee
- Fundraising Committee
- IU Sustainability Fund Committee
The principal tasks of the Logistics Committee are to take minutes at all meetings (and make those minutes available to the public), to ensure the continued good standing of the IUB SSC with the IU Student Activities Office, and to develop and maintain relations with sustainability-related student organizations at other colleges/universities/technical schools. Contact the Logistics Director for more information.
The Publicity Committee is tasked with all things related to recruitment and education/outreach. Hence, the committee is responsible for seeking new participants and members as well as for event advertising, IU Sustainability Fund promotion, and media outreach. Students interested in marketing, graphic design, website upkeep, or running around putting up flyers will have plenty to do on this committee. Contact the Membership & Publicity Director for more information.
As a collective voice for a broad cross-section of the IUB student body, the Council uses resolutions to make statements regarding various aspects of sustainability at IU and in the community. Committee participants work with member representatives to draft language for resolutions, which will then be up for a vote before the General Assembly. Contact the Advisory Director for more information.
The Events Committee is charged with planning and executing all Council-sponsored projects and events that fall outside of SustainIU. Such events may include lectures, panels, film screenings, field trips, and the like. A current listing of events can be found on the events page, or on the calendar. Contact the Projects & Events Director for more information.
The SustainIU Committee is responsible for planning and executing all SustainIU events. A listing of events from SustainIU 2011 can be found here, Contact the Projects & Events Director for more information.
The Fundraising Committee works to raise funds for Council endeavors via any means available, including grants, fundraising events, and private donations. The committee works with the committees of the Projects & Events Division as well as with the Publicity Committee to develop budgets to be presented to the General Assembly. Contact the Finance Director for more information.
With the creation of the IU Sustainability Fund, the Council took on new responsibilities in managing student fees. The committee will be responsible for initial vetting of proposals for use of funds as well as for providing details on proposals to the General Assembly for review. Contact the Finance Director for more information.
