PurposeThe purpose of the Indiana University Design Thinking Forum is to serve as a framework for the various design resources on the Bloomington campus to interact. Though situated in different programs, departments, and schools, there is an emerging commonality of methods and views among the participants in the Forum. The increasing penetration of digital presentation technologies across all design disciplines is leading to convergence in ways of working for many designers. Also, there is an increasing recognition of the importance of design processes that focus on use, meaning, and experience. This, too, leads to convergence among different design disciplines. Instead of focusing on discipline specific formal outcomes, many designers are now conceiving of their projects as opportunities for user interaction. The members of the Indiana University Design Thinking Forum, in addition to their own work, will participate in projects that explore and articulate the areas of commonality in their disciplines. Further, these projects will seek to define philosophies, methods, and processes to improve the responsiveness of future design decision making.
