The IU Parent-Child Clinic helps families deal with oppositional problems in 3-8-year-old children. Typically, we are dealing with children who frequently disobey, who have a lot of tantrums, and sometimes are aggressive. We do a careful assessment of difficulties and strengths, and if the problems are appropriate for our program, we offer the family a 12-16 week program designed to solve the problems. The solutions differ from family to family, but usually they emphasize the parents setting up an environment in which the children learn more adaptive ways of meeting their needs. The program is conducted by advanced doctoral students in clinical psychology, under the supervision of a professor of clinical psychology.
