Question: Why do I need Adobe Acrobat Reader software? How do I get it?

Answer: Many documents posted on the Resources Web Site http://www.indiana.edu/~iucme/elementary/resources/ can only be viewed using Adobe Acrobat Reader. You can get and install the free Adobe Acrobat Reader software as follows.

  1. Go to the Adobe web Site by clicking on the link http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

  2. On that page you will be asked to choose your language, platform (MAC, Windows 98, Windows XP, etc.) and whether you are using dial-up or a high speed connection. Your selection will determine the version of software that you will download. Once you do this, you can press the Download button. I use the basic version of the software and do not check the additional boxes that appear asking for the full version. Follow the prompts until you get to the Download button. Click on it and watch it come over.

  3. It may ask you if you would like to open the file or save it in a good place on your computer. Click on Save. The desktop or My Documents are good places. You will also see the filename. You might write the name of file down, because you'll need to open it once the download is complete.

  4. Once the file is finished downloading, find where the file was saved on your computer. Double click on it. It will start to install. You will need to restart your computer for this to be complete.

If you get into trouble, find someone who is comfortable with downloading to help you. Ten year olds are often good for this! Wink

There is also a support page maintained by Adobe at http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/ which may help if there are problems.
