| Dr. Gorbachev recently completed an internal medicine residency in the Department of Medicine at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. He plans on doing a duel fellowship with us in Geriatrics and Gero-Informatics. Dr. Hamidi recently completed her Family Medicine Residency with Indiana University. Dr. Sudanagunta most recently practiced with St. Josehp's Medical Center in Stockton, California and has decided to do a geriatric fellowship. Dr. Hazimeh will complete his geriatric fellowship in October, then he plans to practice in upstate New York. Dr. Dimitrov (not pictured) will be joining us in October to begin her fellowship. She will have completed her Family Medicine Residency at Indiana University. |

Our trainees receive a well rounded education by caring for older adults across the continuum: in housecalls, acute care, extended care, and ambulatory care. - Fellows are funded to attend the American Geriatrics Society (AGS) Annual Meeting
- Fellows have the option to moonlight in a verity of settings based upon approval from their program director
- Qualified applicants' travel expenses are paid along with hotel accommodations
Background
- Indiana University (IU) has been deemed a Hartford Foundation Center of Excellence in Geriatric Medicine
- The IU Geriatrics Fellowship Program is a vibrant program with the capacity to train six fellows per year
- After completing fellowship training at IU, previous graduates have entered practice in the academic setting or private sector
- The Department of Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine & Geriatrics offer one-year, two-year and three-year tracks for Geriatrics Fellowship Training
- All residents who are committed to a career in geriatrics and are board certified or board eligible in internal medicine or family medicine are eligible to apply
- Regardless of track, the first year of training is clinical so that trainees are eligible to sit for the Certificate of Added Qualifications after the first year

- Fellows’ clinical training will occur in three unique settings Wishard Health Services - county hospital, Clarian Health Partners - Indiana University Hospital and Methodist Hospital and the Roudebush VA Medical Center where fellows will see patients across the continuum of care
- Acute Care for Elders (ACE) inpatient unit and consultation services

- Community-based extended care facilities
- Clinics for frail older adults that offer primary, consultative and specialty care
- House Calls for Seniors Program
- Subspecialty care in outpatient and inpatient settings (e.g. Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Palliative Care, Geriatric Psychiatry, Podiatry, Osteoporosis, Continence Care, Dermatology, Rheumatology, Alzheimer’s Disease)
- Didactic-type training occurs routinely
- Weekly clinical conferences (grand rounds, core fellows’ content)
- Monthly journal clubs
- The second and third years of fellowship are available for fellows pursuing an academic career in Geriatric Medicine with focused training in

- Education
- Administration
- Mentorship is provided by nationally and internationally recognized clinicians, clinician- educators and researchers to assure success
- Combined fellowships are offered (e.g. Geriatrics-Palliative care, Geriatrics- Rheumatology, Geriatrics-Oncology and Gero-informatics)

- Interviewing begins in September for the following academic year and is highly competitive as we often fill early
