Constitution of the Indiana University College Republicans
Part I. Name
The name of this organization shall be the Indiana University College Republicans. It shall be known throughout this document as the IUGOP.
Part II. Purposes
Section 1. To make known and promote the
principles of the Republican Party, including the values of limited
government, freedom, and traditional American values, to the students of
Indiana University.
Section 2. To recruit students as members
of the IUGOP and Republican Party, encourage members to be active in
IUGOP, and to help students become members of other allied organizations.
Section 3. To aid in the election of
Republican candidates whom the IUGOP Board votes to endorse.
Section 4. To develop the political skills
of IUGOP members for future service to the party and community.
Part III. Membership
Membership in the IUGOP shall be open to all interested full or part-time students at Indiana University.
Part IV. Officers and Directors
Section 1.There shall be five Officers
of IUGOP with voting rights. These Officers shall include Chairman,
External Vice-Chairman, Internal Vice-Chairman, Secretary, and Treasurer.
All IUGOP members present shall popularly elect these Officers at the
specified time and place of the election.
Section 2.There shall be five Directors
of IUGOP with voting rights. These Directors shall include Press
Secretary, Events Director, Social Director, Political Director, and Tech
Director. All IUGOP members present shall popularly elect these Directors
at the specified time and place of the election.
Section 3.Notice of elections of
Directors and Officers shall be responsibly provided to all IUGOP members
via the IUGOP electronic mail account no later than one week before the
election.
Section 4.Vacancies of Officer or
Director positions shall be filled at the next regular meeting by a vote
of the remaining officers. If the Chairman position were to become
vacant, the External Vice-Chairman shall become Chairman.
Section 5.The duties of the Officers and Directors shall be as follows:
OFFICERS
CHAIRMAN: To preside over all meetings of IUGOP, administer the IUGOP program, and serve as official spokesman of IUGOP. The Chairman has final say over all matters which do not require a vote by the board. The Chairman shall be able to file for removal of any of the other Officers or Directors. The Chairman shall also coordinate efforts with allied organizations and branches of the Republican Party. In the event the Chairman cannot attend a meeting, he must provide one of the Vice-Chairmen with the agenda for the meeting.
EXTERNAL VICE-CHAIRMAN: To assist the Chairman and preside over meetings when the Chairman is absent. To represent IUGOP with Republican organizations at the state or national level. The External Vice-Chairman may file for removal of the Chairman or any of the other Officers or Directors.
INTERNAL VICE-CHAIRMAN: To represent IUGOP with the County Party and allied organizations on the Indiana University campus. The Internal Vice-Chairman may file for removal of the Chairman or any other Officers or Directors.
SECRETARY: To organize the IUGOP office, collect the mail of IUGOP, keep minutes of the meetings of IUGOP. The Secretary shall keep a record of all official IUGOP documents and mentions of IUGOP in the news media. The Secretary shall recruit a staff to assist in these tasks.
TREASURER: To make financial reports to the Officers and Directors at IUGOP meetings, and distribute funds upon authorization of a majority vote of Officers and Directors. The Treasurer shall also be responsible for the maintenance of IUGOP financial records. The Treasurer shall also coordinate fund-raising events and correspond with donors.
DIRECTORS
All Directors must report back to the Chairman and their appointed Vice-Chairman (see Part XI).
TECH DIRECTOR: Runs the IUGOP electronic mail account and updates it as needed. Runs the IUGOP web page.
POLITICAL DIRECTOR: To coordinate events with the College Democrats and other organizations involved in campus politics such as debates, voter registration, etc. Will work with the Social Director when responsibilities overlap. The Political Director shall recruit a staff to help with these responsibilities.
PRESS SECRETARY: To facilitate the publication and advertisement of official IUGOP publications, such as press releases. The Press Secretary shall keep an accurate list of members. The Press Secretary shall recruit a staff to assist in these assigned tasks.
EVENTS DIRECTOR: To arrange IUGOP events geared toward educating the campus and local community, and attracting new members. The Events Director shall recruit a staff to assist in these assigned tasks.
SOCIAL DIRECTOR: To organize all social activities of IUGOP for building morale and networking within the group, and publicize them to the members of IUGOP. The Social Director shall recruit a staff to assist in these assigned tasks.
NON-ELECTED POSITIONS
The Chairman shall appoint these positions.
DORMITORY COORDINATORS: In charge of coordinating IUGOP activities and GOTV efforts for the dormitories of Indiana University. Responsible for assisting IUGOP members in their dorm with any question they have. The Dorm Coordinator shall serve as a direct link to IUGOP for residents of the dorm they are in charge of.
GREEK COORDINATORS: In charge of coordinating IUGOP activities and GOTV efforts for the fraternities and sororities of Indiana University. Responsible for assisting IUGOP members in the Greek area they are in charge of. The default number of Greek coordinators shall be as follows: one for 3rd Street, one for 7th Street, one for North Jordan, and one for the Extension. The Greek coordinator positions shall be combined, or more created, at the discretion of the Chairman.
Part V. Meetings
The IUGOP shall hold a meeting for all members to inform them of the status of the IUGOP not less than twice every semester. Quorum for the meeting is 10 members and one-half of the elected positions.

Part VII. Removal
If the Chairman or one of the Vice-Chairmen file for removal of an Officer or Director for failure to perform assigned duties in good faith, the elected officials of the IUGOP shall vote on the removal. If 7 of 10 elected officials vote to remove, the Officer/Director will be removed from his position and be forced to give up all keys he holds. If the removed Officer/Director has access to passwords, those passwords shall be changed immediately.
Part VIII. Miscellaneous
Any elected official of IUGOP may call for a vote on any topic/action of IUGOP. The issue shall be decided by majority vote. In the event of a tie, the Chairman shall make the final decision.
Part IX. Amendments
Amendments to this Constitution must be submitted at least one week in advance of a regular meeting to the Secretary. The proposed amendment shall be adopted if 7 of 10 officers vote to adopt.
Part X. Ratification
This Constitution shall be adopted upon a positive vote by 7 of 10 officers.
Part XI. Chain of Command
The chain of command shall be as follows:
CHAIRMAN: All Executives and Directors shall report and answer to the
Chairman.
EXTERNAL VICE-CHAIRMAN: Shall report to the Chairman.
INTERNAL VICE-CHAIRMAN: Shall report to the Chairman.
SECRETARY: Shall report to the Chairman and External Vice-Chairman.
TREASURER: Shall report to the Chairman and Internal Vice-Chairman.
TECH DIRECTOR: Shall report to the Chairman and External Vice-Chairman.
POLITICAL DIRECTOR: Shall report to the Chairman and Internal
Vice-Chairman.
PRESS SECRETARY: Shall report to the Chairman and External
Vice-Chairman.
EVENTS DIRECTOR: Shall report to the Chairman and Internal
Vice-Chairman.
SOCIAL DIRECTOR: Shall report to the Chairman and Internal
Vice-Chairman.
