New China Program
The IUHPFL would like to welcome Indiana's high school teachers of Chinese. In 2014, the first group of Chinese language students from Indiana high schools traveled to Hangzhou, China to participate in the first-ever Chinese immersion program! You can visit this past summer's blog to read about the first summer in Hangzhou.
All students who have completed at least three years of Chinese at an Indiana high school are eligible. As with all other programs, students travel in the company of two to four instructors (depending on group size) and spend five weeks with Chinese host families. Students attend daily academic instruction, participate in afternoon activities and excursions to cultural sites.
All China-bound students pledge a modified language commitment as part of the Honor Code. Since Chinese is highly complex, this modification is necessary to ensure that students, instructors and host families communicate effectively while still maintaining the program's integrity.
Teachers of Chinese
Prospective students who are interested in spending five unforgettable weeks in China next year will need to take the Chinese language assessment on either November 15, 2014 or December 6, 2014. More information about this test and how to sign up can be found on our under How to Apply on the Language Test Registration tab. Indiana high school teachers interested in supporting their students and more information should contact the IUHPFL at firstname.lastname@example.org or call Loni Dishong at 812.855.7957.
