Why does my report object output open in Notepad with incorrect formatting when using Internet Explorer? |
When opening certain types of text-formatted output files, Internet Explorer version 5.0 and 5.5 SP2 will launch Notepad to display the files. Unfortunately, Notepad does not correctly handle certain character codes within these text-formatted files, such as carriage returns, so the output is not in an easily readable format. This is not an issue with Netscape or other versions of Internet Explorer, as they will open these files within the browser window and with the correct formatting. If you encounter this problem, instead of selecting "Open" or "Wait for Output" (depending on the type of report object you are using), select "Save to Disk" or "Send to Completed Reports" and then "Save to Disk". You will then receive the customary window allowing you the option to designate the name and location for saving the file on your local computer. Then open the file using another word processor application, such as WordPad or Microsoft Word, and the file will be displayed with the proper formatting. |
