A Phonological Model for Intonation Without Low Tone

By Mercedes Cabrera-Abreu

A Phonological Model for Intonation without Low Tone is a refreshing and provocative look at the way that linguists deal with intonation and tonal phenomena. In contrast to earlier models of intonation which relied on low tone (L) to account for the extensive range of intonation contours, contour tones, tone spreading, and downstep patterns found in the world's languages, this book proposes an intonational model based on a single tone. By doing so, A Phonological Model without Low Tone sheds new light on and urges further investigation into the nature of tone in intonation.
