The Acquisition of Functional Categories, a theoretical work grounded in an actual study of the syntactic acquisition of a bilingual child, offers an in-depth look at the role and development of functional categories in early child grammar. The data presented i this unique work provide maturational schedule in the acquisition of clause structure, and support for the controversial Dual Mechanism Model. With its fresh yet constrained approach to accounting for the linguistic phenomena observed, this study stands as a welcome addition to the literature on child first-language and bilingual syntactic development.
