High School Outreach - Edgewood HS: December 2nd, 2011

In an effort to reach out to the community, MAPS decided to launch a high school outreach program to help current high school students prepare for college in the pre-health fields. MAPS members created a Prezi presentation and poster booths focusing on different health professions. Members also sat on a student panel and took questions from the audience. Edgewood HS was the first of three high schools we are visiting this academic year, with Bloomington South and North coming up in January.

The leadership retreat was an opportunity for MAPS members to bond and to develop leadership skills. We held teambuilding activities to improve the connections between members and held a color association activity to determine everyone's leadership type. In addition, the specific leadership roles within MAPS were explained, and members were able to meet with individuals on the executive board to learn more about their positions. On our second day, all 40 members in attendance worked together to traverse a forest obstacle course. Overall, the event was a blast, and we hope to return next year.

Alternative Spring Break - Habitat for Humanity: March 10th - 17th, 2012

10 MAPS members drove down to St. Petersburg, FL for Spring Break in order to participate in Habitat for Humanity's Collegiate Challenge. For five days, we stayed at a church along with students from University of Minnesota, and worked on a house in the city. Primarily, we worked on roofing, insulation, and installing windows and doors. We visited several beaches in the area and spent a day at the Universal Studios theme park in Orlando. Overall, it was an amazing trip, and we look forward to coming back next year.
