Greetings,

We hope this message finds you well and your semester off to a great start. We are writing to you today to share with you some important news about a new initiative that is being started by the Political Science Department…targeted specifically at and for our Undergraduate Majors. The Political Science Department Undergraduate Advisory Board (POLS UGAB) will serve as the primary undergraduate group to work closely with the Chair, Director of Undergraduate Studies (DUGS), and Academic Advisors in the Political Science (POLS) department on a variety of issues related to the undergraduate experience with Political Science. They will serve to create and plan a variety of events with the department of both an academic/educational and social nature. Examples would include, but not be limited to: brown bag lunch discussions with faculty members, planning and sponsoring debates with students and faculty (and local political leaders as desired), faculty and student appreciation days (both undergraduate and graduate students), and social events for Political Science undergraduates as deemed appropriate.

Agenda items and tasks for the POLS UGAB will be determined by the POLS UGAB members directly with assistance and consultation from the POLS Chair, DUGS, and POLS Academic Advisors.

Any undergraduate POLS major who is in good standing with the department is eligible to apply for membership to the POLS UGAB. A student must have successfully completed a minimum of three POLS courses (at no particular level or particular subject) in order to apply. Applications are available in the POLS main office, or simply fill out and submit the form below. Membership to the POLS UGAB is for one academic year, but students who have previously served on the POLS UGAB may re-apply. We hope many of you will be interested in the POLS UGAB and apply. If you have any questions or require further information please feel free to contact Jim Gibson at jadgibso@indiana.edu.

And as always, if there’s anything we can help you with please do make an appointment to see either us. Just call the main POLS office at 855-6308 and the good folks there will be happy to find us some time on one of our calendars to meet. Take care,

Marsha Franklin Jim Gibson
