Candidates  Placement Tools

One of the responsibilities of the Department is to assist its Ph.D. candidates in finding positions in college or university teaching or other forms of employment. Although much of the responsibility of placement lies with the student and his or her advisor, a Director of Placement coordinates the placement efforts and with the assistance of the Graduate Office organizes and maintains credentials on students and mails copies to prospective employers. A student's placement file includes a vita, departmental transcript, letters of recommendation, and samples of written work, including a dissertation proposal and other papers or articles. The monthly APSA Personnel Service Newsletter serves as a principal source of information about current vacancies on a nation-wide basis. A copy of the Newsletter is on file in the Department.
