This course will focus on a host of issues affecting the contemporary international relations of South Asia. To that end it will examine the impact of the region's colonial heritage and especially the troubled role of inherited borders. It will also deal with questions of inter and intra state wars, support for cross-border terrorism, the role of nuclear weapons in promoting or undermining regional and strategic stability, the prospects of regional cooperation and the region's place in global politics.
