Patrick Kelly,

Biography
Mr. Kelly, who started training Hapkido in 1990, currently holds a 5th dan black belt rank within the United States Hapkido Federation and was recently re-elected USHF President for a second term. In 1992, he was appointed the assistant instructor for the Monroe County YMCA and from 1993-1996 he was the Monroe County YMCA Martial Arts Director. In 1996, he was awarded the rank of Full Instructor in Martial Concepts: Fitness and Fighting System. While at the YMCA he taught classes in Hapkido, Martial Concepts, Kid’s Self-defense, and Kid’s Karate. He has been instructing Hapkido and Self-defense classes at the Indiana University Martial Arts program since 1992. He instructed for the IU Self-Defense Club in 1993-1995 where he served as Vice-President from 1992 to 1993 and continues serving as a safety officer and advisor. He also serves as Faculty Advisor for the Martial Arts Committee in the Dept of Recreational Sports. From 1993-2006, he provided security and management for a local business. In 2009, he presented a workshop on Martial Arts for Physical Education: Attribute Development and Self-Defense Application for the Physical Education Summer Institute for the Indiana Department of Education.

Mr. Kelly has studied concepts and techniques from several martial art systems including, Jun-fan Kickboxing, Wing Chun Gung Fu, Muay Thai, Savate, Kali/Escrima, Penjak Silat, Shoot-fighting, Judo, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, T’ai Chi, Fencing, Archery and personally subscribes to Sifu Bruce Lee’s philosophy of Jeet Kune Do in both his martial arts training and in life.

In what spare time he has, Mr. Kelly enjoys cycling, hiking, reading, and sleeping when the coffee wears off.

Biography
My name is Arlo Welty. I was born in Brown County, Indiana. My martial arts training began at the age of 12 with a Shotokan Karate class at my middle school. Two years later I joined a small private Shorin Ryu Karate school. I trained Shorin Ryu until I came to Indiana University in 1999.

ntil I came to Indiana University in 1999. At IU I took classes in Hapkido, Aikido, Japanese Jiujitsu, Chi Gong, Shotokan Karate, Kali/Escrima,Tae Kwon Do, Modern Arnis, Jeet Kune Do and Tai Chi Chuan. I decided to focus on Hapkido, Jeet Kune Do, Kali and Tai Chi Chuan. I have also trained I graduated from IU in 2003 with a Bachelor of the Arts and a Certificate in Martial Arts from the School of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation.

After graduation I became an instructor for Indiana University's Martial Arts Program in 2003. I teach Hapkido, Tai Chi Chuan, JKD, Escrima, self defense and archery. I have been an instructor for the Indiana University Hapkido/Self Defense club since 2003. I am currently a 3rd Degree blackbelt with the United States Hapkido Federation. I have received my first level Elite Instructor in Martial Concepts, under instructor Patrick Kelly. I am also working towards my teaching certification with the New School of Tai Chi Chuan.

Brian Pike

Biography
Brian Pike began his training in the martial arts around age 8 when he studied Taekwondo, only to stop again at age 9.

Upon enrolling at Indiana University in September of 2004, he re-entered the martial arts community, starting with a Beginning Hapkido class. He quickly became obsessed and branched out into practice in Jeet Kune Do Concepts, Kali/Escrima, T'ai Chi Ch'uan, Modern Arnis, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Capoeira Angola, Fencing, Archery, Small Circle Ju Jitsu, Shotokan Karate, and, finally, returned to Taekwondo. Although certainly not an expert in most of these styles, they have certainly had an influence on Mr. Pike's methodologies and mindset.

In December of 2007, Mr. Pike earned his first dan (black belt) in Hapkido through the United States Hapkido Federation, followed in 2009 by his second dan. He earned a first dan in Taekwondo through the United Federation of Taekwondo Instructors in 2010 and was promoted to "Apprentice Elite Instructor", a first dan equivalent, in Martial Concepts during that same year. He continues to train in Hapkido, Taekwondo, Martial Concepts Jeet Kune Do and Kali, as well as T'ai Chi Ch'uan and whatever anyone else will teach him.

Mr. Pike began teaching in 2008 for the Indiana University Martial Arts Program through the school of HPER?s Physical Activity Instruction Program. He has taught Hapkido, Advanced Hapkido II, T?ai Chi Ch?uan, Taekwondo, and Self Defense as well as assisting and substitute teaching in various Jeet Kune Do, Escrima, and Hapkido classes. He also has a history of service to the Indiana University Hapkido/Self-Defense Club including serving as a safety officer since 2007, treasurer in 2006-2007, president from 2007-2009, and an instructor in 2008 and again from 2010 to the present. He has been serving as treasurer for the United States Hapkido Federation since 2009 and has presented at two of their seminars.

Adam Rector

Club Instructor, 1st Dan

Biography
Adam Rector has had martial arts influences in his life since a very young age, but began formal training in martial arts when he was 14 with the art of Tae Kwon Do. Since that time he has trained in various styles from different cultures and philosophies. He holds the rank of 1st degree black belt in Kyushiki-ryu Kempo Jutsu, Tae Kwon Do, and Hapkido. He has instructed various disciplines including Hapkido, Kempo Jutsu, and Parkour and Freerunning. In 2011 he graduated from Indiana University with a double major and Honors in both Physics and Martial Arts Training Methodologies. He is also a graduate of the International Stunt School and a member of the United Stuntmans Association.

Steve Veldman

Club Instructor, 1st Dan

Biography
Steve Veldman began his martial arts career as a saber fencer at Escrime du Lac Fencing Academy in Mishawaka, Indiana, where he trained throughout high school. He started training Hapkido as a student at Indiana University, and earned his Black Belt through the United States Hapkido Federation in the spring of 2011. A week after he began his study of Hapkido he started training Kali/Escrima, and continues to pursue this training through the Marital Concepts Academy here in Bloomington. He is also currently the president of the Indiana University T'ai Chi Club, and is working to complete his instructor certification in Grandmaster William C.C. Chen's Yang style T'ai Chi Ch'uan through the New School T'ai Chi Ch'uan Association. Mr. Veldman considers himself incredibly fortunate for the opportunity to study with the many gifted and knowledgeable teachers he has had in his young martial arts career, and would like to thank each of them for the knowledge they have been so kind to share with him.
