BASIC GUIDELINES FOR INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
1A full-time, 15 week therapeutic recreation internship is required (as required by NTRS standards).
2The internship is sequenced in the curriculum to occur after successful completion of required courses and 320 hours of practical experience.
3Students making application for an internship placement must have a 2.0 overall GPA, a 2.0 GPA in recreation and therapeutic recreation courses, and be recommended by their advisor.
4An agency supervisor must be a currently certified therapeutic recreation specialist, under NCTRC; must have had two (2) years of experience in therapeutic recreation; and must have been employed at his or her agency for at least one (1) year.
5A qualified faculty member, with credentials in therapeutic recreation, will coordinate the University's internship supervision.
6Sites selected for internship placements are approved by full-time faculty in therapeutic recreation. Each site shall have a written plan of operation and a plan for the internship experience.
7Internships shall provide students an opportunity to have practical experience in a clinical setting that has established professional therapeutic recreation services.
8Agency supervisors shall meet with the student in clinical supervision one (1) hour each week throughout the internship.
