What is going on?
The IU Table Tennis Club hosts several Events throughout the academic Year, some of which are club internal while other ones are open to IU or the general public. Some of these activities are Tournaments, Club League, Coaching, Scrimmages with other Clubs, Fundraisers and Club Socials. Check out the Calender below to see what is coming up. If you are interested in any of the events drop us a line or find us on facebook.
The Club hosts semesterly tournaments around Thanks-Giving day and Spring Break. The Thanks-Giving tournament consists of a 2-Men-Team system in which the first team member is seeded from the top half of the pool of players. The second team member is drawn starting with the last seed which gives everyone a fair chance to win the tournament. The Spring Break Tournament is played using a double elimination system.
IUTTC Fall Tournament
The IUTTC hosts a tournament the second or third weekend into the Fall semester. IU students, faculty and staff aswell as the bloomington community are welcome to participate. The tournament functions as a recruitment event aswell as a fundraiser for the club.
The club members regularly participate in USATT sanctioned tournament. Those tournaments are usually announced and organized in the facebook group. Especially members that intend to compete for the IU team are encouraged to participate in a few tournaments throughout the year. IUTTC is also hosting a USATT tournament (usually in March) which is an excellent opportunity for members to compete on the regional level or just come and watch some good games.
The Club League is hosted by USATT, the governing body of table tennis in the United States. It consists of a round robin tournament once a week which gives the members the opportunity to compete with other club members on a regular basis and track improvements in their game play. Results from the League and Tournaments are used to determine who gets to participate in NCTTA events on the IU Team.
If you are not the competitive kind or you are looking into getting back in shape or improving your game play you might be more interested in the Coaching sessions. Lessons contain video analysis that demonstrate techniques for beginners/intermediates and explain strategies for advanced players, technical instructions from the Coach or advanced players/team members, practices with one of our Robots to improve the fester the individual hits, as well as rallies with a sparlingspartner that are aimed at simulating game play situations.
The Club holds scrimmages with other Collegiate Clubs to prepare the IU team for their semesterly tournaments. The teams will play a formal NCTTA style team tournament, members are invited to cheer and challenge individuals of the other team once the scrimmage is over.
Although Campus Recreational Sports comes up for some of the Club expenses additional funding is required, especially to improve training/coaching capabilities and support our Collegiate Team. The main responsibility to raise these funds lies on the team, yet everyone is invited to participate.
The Club members meet from time to time to get to know each other outside Hper. That involves dinners after practices and tournaments, pizza socials, showings or broadcasts of special table tennis events and barbecues during the warmer months of the academic calender.
