The Robert A. and Sandra S. Borns Jewish Studies Program at Indiana University is pleased to announce the Robert A. and Sandra S. Borns Scholarship for a freshman and the Irving M. Glazer Student Scholarship competition for incoming freshmen. One Borns Scholarship of $5,000 and two $4,000 Irving M. Glazer Student Scholarships will be awarded to three incoming freshmen committed to pursuing a major or an area certificate in Jewish Studies at Indiana University Bloomington. The scholarship recipients must be full-time students at Indiana University during the 2006-2007 year and maintain a good scholarly standing as a major or area certificate student in Jewish Studies through the funded year.
SELECTION CRITERIA: Candidates will be considered on the basis of outstanding academic and personal achievement. Students should have a GPA of 3.4 or above and have a record of academic and extracurricular accomplishment.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Please submit a cover letter providing name, address, telephone number, e-mail address, with a signed statement of commitment to either the Jewish Studies major or area certificate; a high school transcript; a personal statement that addresses plans for academic work at Indiana University and the specific way that a major or area certificate in Jewish Studies will figure in the applicant's undergraduate education and career plans; a resume detailing extracurricular activities, awards, and honors; and, two letters of recommendation. (At least one of the two recommendations must come from a high school teacher well acquainted with the student's academic strengths and should focus on the student's academic abilities.) SAT/ACT scores will also be considered. Applicants need only submit them during the IU application process.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: On or before Friday, March 2, 2007.
ANNOUNCEMENTS OF SCHOLARSHIP PRIZE: The scholarship winners will be announced in May of 2007.
