Indiana University Bloomington

The Robert A. and Sandra S. Borns Jewish Studies Program at Indiana University is pleased to announce funds available to subsidize attendance by Jewish Studies major, area certificate, Hebrew minor, and doctoral minor students at academic or professional conferences related to Jewish Studies and Hebrew.

Who is eligible for conference funding?

Funding is for qualified students who need financial support to attend a conference, and who otherwise would not be able to attend. Qualified students are Indiana University Bloomington students who have signed up with the Jewish Studies advisor as Jewish Studies majors, Jewish Studies area certificate students, Jewish Studies Hebrew minor students, or Jewish Studies doctoral minor students.

How and when is conference funding received?

Students awarded conference funding are reimbursed up to $250 AFTER the conference when an itemized list of expenses and original receipts for registration, travel, lodging, etc. have been submitted to the Jewish Studies Program. An original passenger coupon receipt or e-ticket receipt, including itinerary, price, and proof of payment, must be submitted for airline fare reimbursement.

To apply:

No later than one month before the conference and preferably earlier, qualified students should request from the Jewish Studies Program (Goodbody Hall 326, 855-0453) a conference funding application form and two conference funding recommendation forms. Faculty recommendation forms can be submitted by an associate instructor or a professor. At least one of the recommendations should come from an instructor or professor of a Jewish Studies course.

The application form (with a copy of the conference announcement, program, and registration form attached) must be submitted to the Jewish Studies Program at least 3 weeks before the conference begins. It is the student’s responsibility to make sure that the 2 recommendation forms are also submitted at least 3 weeks before the beginning of the conference.

Funds are limited. Applications will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Jewish Studies Student Conference Fund is made available through the Robert A. and Sandra S. Borns Endowment Fund.
