M.A. & Certificate in Nonprofit Management

An ideal combination for students who think of pursuing a career in the nonprofit sector or in the Jewish community: a Master’s in Jewish Studies and a certificate in nonprofit management from IU’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs.

Students interested in combining an M.A. in Jewish Studies and a certificate in nonprofit management need to apply separately to both the Jewish Studies Program and to SPEA.

Required Courses (9 credit hours)
SPEA-V 522 Human Resource Management in Nonprofit Organizations (3 cr.)
SPEA-V 525 Management in the Nonprofit Sector (3 cr.)
SPEA-V 526 Financial Management for Nonprofit Organizations (3 cr.)

Electives (6 credit hours)
Two additional SPEA graduate courses are selected with the approval of the student’s advisor. A sampling of current course titles includes: Introduction to Nonprofit Sector, Civil Society and Public Policy in the U.S.; Civil Society in Comparative Perspective; Fund Development for Nonprofit Organizations, Principles and Practices of Social Entrepreneurship; Nonprofits in the Media, and International NGO Management.
