The
Indiana University Judo Club is a club associated with Indiana University
division of Recreational
Sports. The IU Judo Club was formed to practice and teach others the art
of Judo. The IU Judo Club meets many times a week and frequently goes to competitions.
Judo is a martial art and competitive sport founded and developed in Japan.
Judo is practiced around the world and an Olympic sport. The art of Judo consists
of Throws, ground fighting, self-defense, katas, and a great deal more.
Who is the Club Open To?
The IU Judo Club is open to students and staff
of Indiana University and the general public. People of any
experience level are welcome to join us and practice, learn, and
even compete. Even if you have never taken a martial arts class or been involved
with any kind of sport. The club meets many times a week and has a head coach
and a multitude of upper ranking students who help instruct.
Where does the Club Practice?
The IU Judo Club practices on the Indiana University campus at the Hper
building room 095. To see our club just come during our practices
to room 095. If you do not know where that is just go to
member services at the entrance and they will assist you.
When does club Practice?
Tuesday 7:30pm-9:30
Thursday 7:30pm-9:30 pm
Friday 4:00pm-6:00pm
Sunday 5:00pm-7:00pm
What to wear?
When you first come
to club it is okay to wear just regular athletic clothing. Yet Judo is a much
more physical sport with numerous throws and grappling moves. In order to
play judo it is important to have a Judo Gi (uniform). The
Judo Gi can be purchased through the club or individuals can purchase their
own uniform to wear to class. To practice Judo it is important to have a special
uniform to help perform the art and because Judo uniforms are much more durable.
A typical Gi costs about $30 to $40 and can get more expensive. Club patches for gis (or for everyday wear) are available for $5.
Also, no one may wear jewelry and piercings
must be covered up for safety reasons.
What does it cost to join the club?
The IU Judo club only asks for $35 a semester or about $70
a year. The Judo club then uses this money to assist in paying for
club activities and instruction costs. This is a pretty good deal considering
you can practice as many times as the club meets.
