Yellow Belt Requirements
Test for Go-Kyu (Yellow Belt)
The following techniques must be demonstrated and judged as proficient by the Head Instructor or Promotion Chair of the IU Judo Club.
| Ukemi Waza (Falling): | Back, Forward, Both Side Breakfalsl, Zenpo Kaiten Ukemi (Forward rolling fall) |
| Nage Waza (Throws): | Osoto Gari, Ippon Seoi Nage, O Goshi, Koshi Guruma, Tomoe Nage, Deashi Harai |
| Osae Komi Waza (Circle of Pins): | Kesa Gatame, Kata gatame, Tate Shiho gatame, Yoko Shiho Gatame, Kami Shiho Gatame, Ushiro Kesa gatame, kuzure Tate Shiho Gatame |
| Shime Waza (Chokes): | Hadaka Jime, Katat Juji Jime |
| Kansetsu Waza (Joint Locks): | Juji Gatame (formal Modified) |
| Turnovers: | Cross Face, Half-Nelson |
Green Belt Requirements
Test for Yonkyu (Green Belt Test)
The following techniques must be demonstrated and judged as proficient by the Head Instructor or Promotion Chair of the IU Judo Club.
| Nage Waza (Throws): | Tai Otoshi, Ouchi Gari, Kouchi Gari, Sode Tsuri Komi Goshi, Tani Otoshi, Harai Goshi, Morote Seoi Nage, Uki Waza, Kosoto Gari, Sukui Nage |
| Osae Komi Waza (Holds): | Uki Gatame, classical and modified |
| Kansetsu Waza (Joint Locks): | Ude Gatame, Ude Garami |
| Shime Waza (Chokes): | Gyaku Juji Jime, Nami Juji Jime, Sankaku Jime |
Third degree Brown Belt Requierments
Test for San-Kyu (Third Degree Brown Belt)
The following techniques must be demonstrated and judged as proficient by the Head Instructor or Promotion Chair of the IU Judo Club.

| Kansetsu Waza (Joint Locks): | Hiza Gatame, Ude Hishigi Waki Gatame |
| Renraku Waza (Combinations): | 3 Combinations of Choice |
| Keashi Waza (Counters): | 2 Counter Throws of Choice |
| Instruction: | Teach and Explain your "Tokui Waza" |
Second Degree Brown Belt Requierments
Test For Ni-kyu (second degree brown belt)
The following techniques must be demonstrated and judged as proficient by the Head Instructor or Promotion Chair of the IU Judo Club.
| Nage Waza (Throws): | Uchi Mata, Sase Tsuri Komi Ashi, Harai Tsuri, Komi Ash, Ushiro Goshi, Uki Otoshi, Kuchiki Taoshi, Yoko Gake, Sumi Otoshi, Hikikomi Gaeshi, "Makikomi Waza" (Uchi, Soto, Hane, Hari, Uchimata, Osoto) |
| Osae Komi Waza (Holds): | Escapes from Kami Shiho Gatame, Hooks-in, Guard |
| Shime Waza (Chokes): | Tsukkomi Jime, Ryote Jime Jigoku Jime |
| Kansetsu Waza (Joint Locks): | Hara Gatame, Te Gatame, Sankaku Gatame |
| Renraku Waza (Combinations): | Use “Tokui Waza” in 3 combinations |
| Keashi Waza (Counters): | Demonstrate 2 Counters for "Your Tokui Waza">/td> |

Black Belt Requirements
Test For Shodan (Black Belt)
All of the techniques from Gokyu through Ikkyu must be demonstrated and judges as proficient and have a recommendation from the head instroctor or promotion chair of the IU Judo Club
Black Belt Testing Is A Function for the State and national Promotion committies. John or Vern will contact the President of Indiana Judo to set up a Black Belt promotion examination as they are needed.
Requirments May Include:
- All terms and translation of the techniques of Kodokan Judo
- Demonstration of all the techniques of Kodokan Judo
- Competitive record/awards/achievements
- Complete Demonstration of Nage No Kata
- Written Recommendation by senior instructor
