Frequently Asked Questions

How much does the festival cost?

Thanks to sponsorships from individuals and departments within and around the Indiana University campus and community, this festival is free. Should you wish to make a tax-deductible contribution to further our efforts, please contact us at: jwgp@indiana.edu.

Where will the festival take place?

At the Indiana Memorial Union on the campus of Indiana University-Bloomington.

How did you choose the films?

The festival organizers screened documentaries, which filmmakers submitted to the festival.   Documentaries were also sought through web searches and recommendations from directors, scholars, and producers.  Jewish Women in Global Perspective was looking for films from around the world that addressed Jewish women’s authority, education, sexuality, religion, bodies, identity, work, and relationships, which also made connections to women from multiple ethnic and global contexts.  The festival wishes to explore the question: “Do women around the world face similar life challenges and questions about themselves?” with the films.

Why are you only showing documentaries?

Jewish Women in Global Perspective seeks to counter popular stereotypes about Jewish women.   For this reason, the documentary genre represents real women in real time, place, and circumstance.

Can I stay overnight?

Accommodations are available around Bloomington. Please click here for more information about accommodations and things to do in Bloomington.

Can I bring my children?

We leave this up to your discretion. Documentary films will be shown that range widely in subject matter.  Please feel free to visit each film’s website for synopsis details.  We strongly recommend that young teens see Hineini, a film about coming out in a Jewish day school.

Where can I park? How do I get there?
