In amateur radio lingo, a "net" is just a directed meeting on the air. It is unrelated to the internet, networking, or other meanings of the word "net". When you hear net just think of a meeting via radio. The person running the meeting is referred to as "Net control", and it is the job of that individual to direct traffic through the duration of a net.

Net meetings are also formalized during special events and times of emergency, to organize station traffic on the air and prevent chaos.

The K9IU net meets on Sunday nights at 1900 local time, except for the 3rd Sunday of the month when we meet in person. The net is held on the 146.940 repeater frequency, with a pl tone of 136.5. All stations are welcome and invited to participate in this directed net. The K9IU net is run by K9IU members, including students.

During the net we cover club announcements, upcoming events, and swap ideas and chit chat. Amateur radio net meetings are a great time to periodically test your operating setup.
