New website pages on shack operation

FYI, I've added 2 new pages under the "Club Equipment" menu: Contest Operation and Band Capabilities. These should help everyone (especially new members) learn how we operate on HF and log contacts during contests. Please read through these, especially if you plan on operating this weekend in the ARRL DX SSB contest (see the forum thread for that contest here). The contest operation page has been printed off and taped up in the shack for easy reference as well. Hope to see you there!

The following show which bands we can operate on each antenna. For space consideration I've left out the WARC bands.

K5D

Well, for those who left the shack early after the meeting tonight, K5D moved their RX up to .228 on 20m but the band conditions were closing fast. We were able to get them short of 9:00 tonight.. Turned out the op was Joseph's uncle, so he got a lengthy QSO in after the initial contact (lengthy in terms of a dxpedition).

All thanks to that beam! One more DX entity for the books..

Cheers,
-Corey

Using PropNET to gauge band openings

(this is info that I was going to send to a colleague but figure others on here might benefit so I'll put it here instead.. So if it seems random, it sortof is)

Last weekend saw a few evenings of high activity and good band conditions in the 10m band. Now, 10m is a fun and quite popular band for many reasons, some of which include:

Technicians have voice privileges from 28.3-28.5 MHz

Smallest wavelength of the amateur HF allocation, meaning less required for your antenna (for example, beam antennas are smaller)

Indiana QSO Party Results

We had a good turnout at the K9IU shack to operate in the Indiana QSO Party. Below are our unofficial results (logs have been submitted).

Contacts for K9IU: 165
Multipliers: 54
Total points: 8,910

I'll create a page to track all of our contesting scores so we have something to work on beating in years to come. 73s

This year, K9IU will be operating from the IMU shack for the Indiana QSO Party (INQP). This event is a contest and chance to make as many contacts within Indiana as possible, though outside Indiana contacts are also desired and sought out.
