Indiana QSO Party (INQP)

THe INQP is coming up this Saturday, May 7th, From Noon to Midnight EDT.

Bonus: We will be working along side New England and MA for their QSO parties as their contest windows will overlap ours.

Personally, I'm aiming to be in the shack for the entire contest window. That doesn't mean that I wouldn't welcome a break if someone wanted to take over for a bit, or a longer while :)

So, KB9WRA: Noon to Midnight.

Post your hours in the replies if you know about what time you might be by!

Upcoming Contests, SCR and INT. DX Voice

Well, we have two good contests coming up this term, the School Club Roundup, which is next week! And the International DX Phone Contest, which is three-ish (3-ish) weeks away. We will want to double check everything, especially our beam and our loggers. We now have a place where we can setup an amplifier easily without tripping over things, so if we are fortunate enough to have an amp again this year, it would be an awesome time! Speaking of which, we should get K9SQL some cookies, see if he'll bring the amp in again this year :)

2010 K9IU Callout

We need to do some recruiting.. Licensed people and unlicensed alike.

I'm going to throw out some ideas.. I don't expect all of them to stick (nor do I think they are all "good" ideas - just throwing stuff out to start a conversation). Whatever we do, we should do it quickly and soon while the beginning of the school year is still here and produce some traction before people get busy with finals and projects.

Here it goes:

Spring 2010 antenna maintenance: 10 April

This thread is for information and commentary about our upcoming antenna maintenance. The primary date is Saturday, 10 April, with a rain-date of 17 April.

We aim to kick things off at 9AM, and I will be bringing coffee and fixings for those who request it (that means you need to e-mail me: johajohn@indiana.edu with your milk/cream/sugar preferences so I can get an accurate estimate on how much to get).

What we want to do:

I was hoping to get into the shack later tonight, or more than likely, later this week (Thur-Fri Eve) to work the SCR, if anyone is interested in co-working, etc. Any thoughts?

IRLP/Echolink 146.94 repeater?

All,

Just curious if the IRLP Node is connected to/utilizes our Echolink node as well. I was on Echolink just now and was testing to see if I could reach the repeater through Echolink, but I could not.

I figure this would give other people means of accessing our repeater via Echolink.

Any thoughts?

Nov. Sweeps planning thread

This thread is for planning and scheduling our activities for Nov. Sweeps.
Official rules are available from the ARRL website:
http://www.arrl.org/contests/rules/2009/novss.html

In short, only one transmitter operational at a time. I recommend we run as a multi-op station rather than a school club station in order to allow individuals who are not student/faculty/staff to contest with us.

School Club Roundup is just around the corner. October 19 - 23. We should start making plans now. http://www.arrl.org/SCR/

Fall 2009 workday planning

I'm starting this topic as a pre-event planning topic for a fall workday.

This summer we cleaned up the connections on our HF vertical, apparent with some good results. That's good, but we have more work to do, primarily on our HF beam.

Work to do on the beam and tower:
1. install balun to antenna. This will probably be done by cutting off the old hardware and feedline connection, and perhaps drilling out holes for new mounting hardware. Next we secure the balun (already purchased, I hope), and replace the feedline segment currently in use up to the antenna.
