Modern Day Eunuchs: Triumphs, Tragedies, and Transcendence(59:11 mins; 3 parts – part 1 above, parts 2 & 3 below) What drives men to choose to be castrated? Dr. Richard Wassersug presents research on voluntary eunuchs, that is, males who desire to be emasculated yet do not wish to be female. He discusses what motivates these men (why, how, and where they get castrated), and the consequences of their castration on personality and social relations. Richard Wassersug is a Professor in the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology at Dalhousie University. Though the majority of his scientific career has been spent studying amphibians and reptiles, his focus is now on the psychology of androgen deprivation in humans, and the effects of castration on gender identity and sexuality.
