Knee High

About Knee High Cooperative Daycare

Knee High is a family day care cooperative. This means that it is run, managed, and staffed by the parents of the children who go there. We purchase the supplies, do the dishes, mop the floors, plan and do the field trips, read books, play games, sing songs, put on Band-Aids, teach how to share and be a friend, listen to funny jokes, wash faces and hands, rock babies quietly to sleep, set policies and procedures, worry about the kids, etc.

We strive to maintain our enrollment at 10-12 children, ages 6 months to kindergarten. At least two parents are on duty when Knee High is open. With the help of work-study student helpers, we maintain at least a 1:3 adult-to-child ratio most of the time. This allows us to take care of the children's needs, plan activities, go out for walks, and give the children individual attention as they need it.

Knee High families are highly involved in caring for the children, as well as serving as day care administrators. We all share in caring for one another's children, and in keeping the cooperative functioning.
