Undergraduate Research Opportunities

Scholarship is an important component of higher education.  IUK's professors are not simply excellent instructors; our faculty include respected researchers in their fields.  The small size of IUK presents excellent opportunities for undergraduate students to participate in research--an opportunity often not available at larger institutions.

Participation in research helps to develop critical thinking skills, organizational skills, and knowledge in the discipline well beyond what can be learned in a classroom or teaching lab.  In addition, invaluable experience will be gained that may help attract employers or gain admission to advanced degree programs.

Several faculty in the Department of Natural, Information, and Mathematical Sciences welcome and encourage students to participate in their research programs.  Students can volunteer, perform independent research for college credit (BIOL-L 490, CHEM-C 409), or participate as an intern in the Undergraduate Research Summer Institute (URSI) program. To learn more about individual faculty and their research interests, click on the names of the faculty:
